Education Project One of the aims of the Charitable Trust is to advance education regarding the environment and the need for recycling within the community. Wastesavers have always taken this aim seriously and have, since 1998, employed a designated Education Officer fulfilling these criteria. Education Room Textile Tim Wastesavers Resource Centre houses an education room which has been equipped with five interaction educational pods, a 3D mural, tables and chairs, computers and the ability to view recycling procedures from the Viewing Platform. Curriculum linked games, resources and worksheets have been developed by qualified primary school teachers from Newport Schools with the aid of a grant from Careers Wales and Newport City Council. The project will, initially target schools years 3 and 4 and offer a 2 hour interactive teaching programme whereby pupils from Newport schools can attend this free educational resource and become enthused recycling heroes motivating their family and friends. Forklift Truck They will learn, in the first instance, what is collected via the kerbside recycling scheme from their homes and what happens to the materials that are collected from their schools. From the viewing platform they will observe materials being transported via truck and forklifts into the correct bay and then processed via conveyor belts, magnetic extraction and baling. |
